In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.001

PICKTHAL: O thou enveloped in thy cloak,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.002

PICKTHAL: Arise and warn!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.003

PICKTHAL: Thy Lord magnify,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.004

PICKTHAL: Thy raiment purify,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.005

PICKTHAL: Pollution shun!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.006

PICKTHAL: And show not favour, seeking wordly gain!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.007

PICKTHAL: For the sake of thy Lord, be patient!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.008

PICKTHAL: For when the trumpet shall sound,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.009

PICKTHAL: Surely that day will be a day of anguish,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.010

PICKTHAL: Not of ease, for disbelievers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.011

PICKTHAL: Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.012

PICKTHAL: And then bestowed upon him ample means,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.013

PICKTHAL: And sons abiding in his presence

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.014

PICKTHAL: And made (life) smooth for him.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.015

PICKTHAL: Yet he desireth that I should give more.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.016

PICKTHAL: Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.017

PICKTHAL: On him I shall impose a fearful doom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.018

PICKTHAL: For lo! he did consider; then he planned -

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.019

PICKTHAL: (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.020

PICKTHAL: Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.021

PICKTHAL: Then looked he,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.022

PICKTHAL: Then frowned he and showed displeasure.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.023

PICKTHAL: Then turned he away in pride

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.024

PICKTHAL: And said: This is naught else than magic from of old;

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.025

PICKTHAL: This is naught else than speech of mortal man.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.026

PICKTHAL: Him shall I fling unto the burning.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.027

PICKTHAL: - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! -

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.028

PICKTHAL: It leaveth naught; it spareth naught

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.029

PICKTHAL: It shrivelleth the man.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.030

PICKTHAL: Above it are nineteen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.031

PICKTHAL: We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and
their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve;
that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and
that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture
hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts
there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this
similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He
guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else
than a Reminder unto mortals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.032

PICKTHAL: Nay, by the Moon

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.033

PICKTHAL: And the night when it withdraweth

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.034

PICKTHAL: And the dawn when it shineth forth,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.035

PICKTHAL: Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.036

PICKTHAL: As a warning unto men,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.037

PICKTHAL: Unto him of you who will advance or hang back.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.038

PICKTHAL: Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds;

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.039

PICKTHAL: Save those who will stand on the right hand.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.040

PICKTHAL: In gardens they will ask one another

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.041

PICKTHAL: Concerning the guilty:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.042

PICKTHAL: What hath brought you to this burning?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.043

PICKTHAL: They will answer: We were not of those who prayed

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.044

PICKTHAL: Nor did we feed the wretched.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.045

PICKTHAL: We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.046

PICKTHAL: And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.047

PICKTHAL: Till the Inevitable came unto us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.048

PICKTHAL: The mediation of no mediators will avail them then.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.049

PICKTHAL: Why now turn they away from the Admonishment,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.050

PICKTHAL: As they were frightened asses

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.051

PICKTHAL: Fleeing from a lion?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.052

PICKTHAL: Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open
pages (from Allah).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.053

PICKTHAL: Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.054

PICKTHAL: Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.055

PICKTHAL: So whosoever will may heed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

074.056

PICKTHAL: And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount
of fear. He is the fount of Mercy.
